Truth be told, this wasn’t my first trip to South Carolina.  I have visited Myrtle Beach once before with my family.  However, I’m told by true Southerners that Myrtle Beach doesn’t count.  I assume this is because it is viewed as nothing more than a tourist attraction.  That being said, I feel very lucky that my trip to Greenville was my third trip of 2011.  Even though times have been tough, I’m so happy that I still have the chance to travel.*  It is truly one of my favorite things to do.  Greenville is an adorable little city nestled in the foot hills of the Blue Ridge mountains.  I got to indulge in a variety of different activities: we hiked, tubed, swam, drove through the mountains, and - of course - ate a ton of great food and enjoyed some libations.  I can’t wait to visit again, even if it is mostly to hear Southern accents.  They amuse me. Greatly.  And everyone has one.  It’s fantastic.

wanna get away?

Photobucket

This week has just been one of those weeks.  As I was walking home from my friend’s house on Monday night, I saw a huge orange ticket on my car.  Then, today, as I was driving back to the office, I got yet another ticket.  I’ve been staying at work late, and getting to work super early.  Needless to say, I’m pretty exhausted.

Days like today really make me think about taking a vacation, and here are a few overseas destinations that are currently topping my wish list:

Norway, Rome, Fiji, Bali, Greece, Paris

top ten

Photobucket

These are the top ten things I learned while on vacation last week:

10.  My Grandpa Rice once bought a car for $4 and sold it for $6.  Great ROI.

9.  Microwave s’mores can be just as satisfying as real ones after 3 glasses of wine.

8.  When your family is eating dinner, they consider it rude when you keep running to the television to catch every detail of the Pretty Little Liars summer finale.

7.  Kids are super annoying.  Super. Annoying.

6.  When said kids are stuck in an inner tube in the middle of the lake yelling “Guys, guys, guys, GUYS.  I’m gonna have to jump in with my clothes on” - they are even more annoying.

5.  People from Northern Wisconsin are personally offended by the lactose intolerant.

4.  There are billions of stars that I can never see where I live.  It’s pretty sad.

3.  Turning off your cell phone for a week can be incredibly liberating.

2.  People from Northern Wisconsin wear full green and gold Packers outfits.  During baseball season.

1.  Wearing a string bikini during water sports is a bad idea.

“you’re such a tease.”

If you were wondering what I spent all last week doing in the middle of nowhere, the photo above pretty much sums it up.  I acted like a kid all week.  I didn’t do my hair or makeup.  I took multiple naps per day.  I ate s’mores, played cards, and did synchronized dives and jumps off of the back of our boat with my brother.  I also took close to 200 pictures, just because I felt like it.  I’m planning to share these with you all week, and teach you things that only Northern Wisconsin living could teach.

But, I’m busy today running errands, catching up on work, and staring at the ever-growing pile of laundry in my room that’s not going to do itself.  So, you get this for now.  When I become slightly more accustomed to my normal routine, you’ll get to see the good stuff.
